Letter from The President, April 2017
To all FPV Tickford Club of NSW Members.
For those who regularly read my monthly letters you will know I like to start with a comment on the Supercar scene. Well to my pleasure I can write about the great start Ford have had to the 2017 season. At the Clipsal 500 the DJR Team Penske guys did us proud, and while not winning a race, were so close to the top Holden teams it wasn’t funny. The Australian Grand Prix supports were even better, between the four races there were 4 Ford victories, three to DJR Team Penske where the drivers shared the wins, and one to PRA. We can all smile again……………
First reminder, McCredies will be on Tuesday April 4. We will now be sending the sms message earlier to encourage even more members to plan it into their week.
As many of you will already know, the monthly Cars & Doughnuts meeting has had to change venue due to construction work at the site that it was being held at. Full credit to Craig Oates who had negotiated with a new venue and the monthly meeting will continue. Renamed appropriately “Paceway Cars & Coffee”, the new venue is Penrith Paceway with the usual 8am start, kicking off April 9. See the Facebook posts for more details ! Once again, well done Craig, this popular meeting would have been sorely missed if not for your work.
March had probably the biggest event that the Club has ever been associated with, the Leukaemia Foundation Charity Cruise to Bathurst. Organised and co-ordinated by Craig Elson, the day was a brilliant success and an absolute credit to Craig who did a phenomenal job on it. Credit also to all those who helped on the day. There were teams of people, under Craig’s control, who prepared and transported gear, sold raffle tickets in advance, sold raffle and meal tickets on the day, cooked and prepared the sausage sizzle, and both set up and tidied up on the day. Regardless of the poor Sydney weather there were still 70 cars that attended, and the day netted in excess of $7,500. Thanks again Craig for the work and the initiative, and to his family who were understanding in the time he had to sacrifice for it.
Also in March was Cam’s Day in Kiama. This was another great success. Promoted by our member Wayne “Swifty” Van Dyk, who has been a long time and passionate supporter of the cause, the day drew a good attendance and again another good FPV-Tickford Car Club of NSW presence.
April will see 2 events. April 4, with relatively short notice, is a charity display Kool Kruisers at Liverpool Catholic Club, see Facebook post and Members emails for details. In addition to this will be the annual Sussex Inlet weekend on April 22/23. There is a good turnout for this one again, all co-ordinated by Steve Lamb as usual.
As promised, the Committee has met during March to set some direction and strategy for the Club. The main points to come from the meeting were:
All Ford Day confirmed for Sydney Motorsport Park on 30 July
Memberships will be due in June, with reminders going out in May. Memberships will be kept at $60 per year, and as last year, all renewals and new memberships will receive a special Club item, details to come The Committee has decided to allocate funds for the Club website to be totally revamped. The original site has served us well but we look forward to modernising it. Brian Bailey will manage this upgrade and we hope to see it on line soon Merchandise will also be added to shortly. Thanks to Jackie the recently added polo shirts were a great success and we are now investigating Club branded soft shell jackets (to be produced on order), umbrellas, and a range of caps (baseball, bucket and umpire). We will keep you up to date on these as we know details We will investigate the purchase of additional Club display teardrop banners, as well as modifying the existing ones so they fly above the car line and not touching the cars The experiment to combine the 2016 Club Show and Shine and Christmas party was a great success, the initiative and organisation of Club members Mel & Peter, and we will probably follow this same format again in 2017
As always, keep up to date with Club emails, the soon to be updated website www.fpvclub.com and Facebook FPV Tickford Club of NSW. Here you can confirm when events are being scheduled and, receive updates, as well as seeing loads of photos from the events that are organised.
You will now also receive an email with Member of the Month. This month it’s Sam Giancotti, a member of three years now and a regular attendee at car shows.
Have a safe month,
John Barbaro President, FPV Tickford Club of NSW
